Subject Overview

The oldest form of study in the world, a Liberal Arts curriculum operates on the understanding that all academic disciplines are interrelated. Drawing on these principles of the ideal education as developed by the ancient Greeks, Liberal Arts embraces an interdisciplinary approach to ask important questions and think BIG. How do mathematical formulas inform some of the world's most famous art? What were some of the most important technological advancements throughout history? What is Einstein's theory of relativity and how did it change the way we think? Why did the world suddenly seem to change and develop at an accelerated pace in the 20th century? How did philosophy, art, literature, painting, and music cope with this new understanding of the world? What is postmodernism? Are we living in a post-postmodern era now? What has been the impact of social media on the public discourse? This intensive and inventive approach asks students to pursue their curiosity without boundaries and offers them the opportunity to develop both critical thinking skills to help them in whatever comes their way. The perfect foundation for a future education in any subject!

Whichever subject(s) you choose to study with us, you have a number of options in terms of how your learning experience is designed. Broadly we take three slightly different approaches depending on the needs of the student, and you should discuss your desired approach during your free advice session. Our three approaches are as follows:

  1. A pre-University course, which prepares you for university study by offering a general overview of the subject at university level, tailored to your interests
  2. Ongoing tutoring, which typically focusses on specific requirements such as an upcoming exam or additional support in a particular area
  3. A research project, which incorporates a deep dive into a particular aspect of your chosen subject as well as key skills required for university level study and an assessed presentation component at the end of the course. For this option, students must choose a tuition package and also a research project ‘add-on.’

Please let your personal adviser know your preferences during your advice session and they will be delighted to put together a bespoke package for you.

Remember: You can study more than one subject with us and many of our students do exactly that.

Optional Add-Ons:

Why not complement your academic course with one of our add-ons?

Research Project (5 hours)

Students choosing our research project must first choose an academic bundle of 10, 20 or 40 hours in their chosen subject and then also select the research project add-on. Your tutor will work with you to design a project as the focus of your academic tuition. The research project add-on comprises sessions specifically focussed on the skills you will need to hone at university level as well as preparing you for a formal presentation, which you will make to an independent academic at the end of your course. Following your presentation you will receive a research project certificate and report from your course tutor.

Exam and Interview Prep (5 hours)

Do you have a very particular goal in mind? An exam or set of exams that you are focussed upon or a particular interview or set of interviews that you would like to prepare for? Our exam and interview prep classes are designed to do two things. The first is to ensure you have the key skills to succeed: revision techniques and exam preparation for example or public speaking and presentation skills. The second is to pair that skillset with the particular knowledge that will be relevant in the exam(s) or interview(s) you are targeting. And that is where our bespoke packages come into their own - you will be paired with tutors that have both particular subject knowledge as well as the skills you will require to succeed.

Study Skills (5 hours)

What does it take to succeed in university and in life? How can you take care of yourself, emotionally and psychologically, while doing your best every step of the way? Complement your passion for learning with concrete skills to help you thrive and succeed, through sessions covering everything from revision techniques and exam preparation, to essay writing, interview skills and more.

Leadership Skills (5 hours)

What does it take to be a young leader and global citizen in today's world? In a world as bustling and busy as ours is today, stepping up to make a difference can be a daunting task. Through this online course, students consider questions of leadership, youth involvement, the role of the internet and social media in 21st-century leadership, global vs. local engagement, and how leadership can be used to make the world a better, kinder place. In parallel to these theoretical discussions, students are challenged to consider the most important issues facing the world today and to develop their own forms of leadership. Workshops on public speaking, presentation skills, interview skills, exam and revision help, academic writing, and more, will reinforce leadership discipline and ideals and help tomorrow’s young leaders to achieve their goals!
